CORE PURPOSE

To show what traditional Ukrainian art is like and illustrate its value

BHAG

To digitize and publish all private and museum collections to create the most comprehensive online platform  for exploring the traditional art of Ukraine

Why this matters

TRADITIONAL ART is one of the most truthful representations of the artistic taste of the entire nation

Ukrainian traditional art is a valuable part of humanity's cultural heritage and an inexhaustible source of inspiration. For us, Ukrainians, our traditional art is and will always be critically important to let us:

■ know who we are and what we are like, and be aware that we were here and this is our land, and here are highly artistic proofs of our identity

■ distinguish what is "ours" - the embodiment of the "Ukrainian sense of beauty" created by generations of Ukrainians, and what is "others'"

■ see the World in the Ukrainian way, and be able to read and write in our artistic language

■ believe in ourselves and our Ukraine - beautiful, strong, "unrestrainedly and eternally createful"

Our services

For those interested and researchers

To understand what Ukrainian traditional art is, we offer an overview of illustrated samples by category and region, as well as generalized analytics with graphs

With a subscription, for deeper research, you can: view not only the title photo-reproduction of each exhibit, but also all additional ones (in low quality), save your favorite photo reproductions in the mood board in the subscriber's account, and apply filters for analytics

For content creators: writers, designers, artists

To recreate in your works an authentic aesthetic atmosphere of time and place, and to understand local styles, we offer a professionally organized and reliable source of historical samples of clothing and household items from different regions, centers, and time zones

With a subscription, you can view all detailed photo reproductions of each exhibit (in low quality), and get the ability to save your favorite photo reproductions in a moodboard in the subscriber's account

Analytics with graphs - allows you to see the overall picture of the traditional art of each region, which of its features and characteristics were the main ones, and which were secondary

Classification of exhibits by "local styles" - shows the bright phenomena of traditional art that we have discovered, inherent in each region

For publishers, producers of ethno/museum products, and handmade craftsmen

With a subscription, you can view all photo reproductions (in low quality), select the ones you like in the mood board

To obtain the rights to legally distribute and use photo-reproductions, as well as the rights to mass or piece-by-piece production of replicas of exhibits and reproduction of individual ornaments or their parts based on photo-reproductions, we provide the opportunity to contact the copyright holders for the desired photo reproductions to conclude license agreements

For museums and owners of private collections

For professional description and accounting of your exhibits, for safe publication of your collections, and monetization of your efforts, we offer an integrated system of accounting and publication of exhibits with the possibility of online sale of your photo-reproductions

And also the opportunity to publish your collection in the international network EUROPEANA

For future generations
For a true and undistorted understanding of who we are, what we are, what is ours, and what generations of Ukrainians considered beautiful, we securely store the originals and digital copies of all exhibits

Dedication

We dedicate this project to the bright memory of Kateryna Kuzhel [1929-2023]. She named this project, supported us, rejoiced at every new exhibit, and believed in us like no one else

Who we are

NGO "KROVETS" is a non-profit non-governmental organization founded in April 2024 to promote proper: collection, preservation, research, accounting, and publication of samples of Ukrainian traditional art, and adequate cooperation of collection owners with: authors, publishers, reenactors, manufacturers, and other organizations

The first version of online-museum KROVETS was opened in October 2014

The reasons behind founding this project were our deep passion for Ukrainian traditional art and the desire to present Ukrainian traditional art to the world in a professional way

Acknowledgments

Exhibit creators - folk designers

We are most grateful to all the talented "folk designers", they were the ones who once embodied their understanding of beauty in all those wonderful creations, photo-reproductions of which are now exhibited on our online-museum. Thanks to their efforts, Ukrainian traditional art has become a powerful testimony to the aesthetic preferences and artistic tastes of the entire Ukrainian nation

Regrettably, we managed to identify the names of only 5% of them. That’s why folk art is sometimes called "nameless", even though each exhibit created by an "unknown" author was mastered by a real person. Sadly, we’ve lost their names, their artefacts being the only memory left.

Museums and collection owners

The major "asset" of our online-museum is over 45 thousand photo-reproductions of exhibits. To make them all appear on our site, someone had to collect and store these exhibits, as well as photograph and digitize them - all this requires enormous effort

We owe special thanks to those museums and private owners who responsibly collect, preserve, and digitize our cultural heritage

Subscribers

First of all, thank you for the responsible use of the content - this is why content owners (museums and private collection owners) can safely publish their collections on our site

We are very grateful for your financial support - we have no other so stable sources of funding
